Philadelphia Airport (PHL) Guide: Terminals, Getting There and Getting Home

Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) handled 30,136,790 passengers in 2025, according to the airport’s own year-end figures. The city puts it about 7.2 miles from Center City; by road from City Hall it is just under 10 miles. This guide covers which terminal you need, which pickup zone matches which ride, and what each way in and out actually costs.

PHL’s terminals run from A-West to F in one connected building.

Which PHL terminal do I need?

PHL has Terminals A-West, A-East, B, C, D, E and F, all linked airside. Terminal A-West handles most international departures; the others are assigned by airline. Your airline and flight number decide the terminal, and the airline’s app is the most reliable place to check it on the day, because gate and terminal assignments do change.

Where do taxis, rideshares and car services pick up at PHL?

Every ground ride at PHL leaves from a numbered zone on the Commercial Transportation Roadway, the road behind baggage claim. Knowing your zone before you land saves a lap of the terminal with your bags.

A pre-booked chauffeur works differently. With our service the chauffeur tracks your flight, meets you inside the terminal and walks you out to the car, so you never have to find the zone yourself.

How do you get between PHL and Center City?

There are four practical options, and the right one depends on bags, group size and the hour. The figures below are the published ones, not estimates.

The taxi flat rate covers the area between the Schuylkill and Delaware Rivers, from Washington Avenue north to Fairmount Avenue, with an extension into University City. Outside that zone the meter runs. The train is the best value for one person with a carry-on. Once you have children, checked bags or a 6 a.m. flight, the arithmetic usually moves to a car.

What makes the trip home from PHL easier?

The trip home is where planning pays off. If a car is booked, the chauffeur tracks your flight, so an early or late landing moves the pickup with it. Waiting time at the airport is included on our pickups, so a slow bag does not cost extra. Give the flight number, not just the landing time, when you book; that is what the tracking runs on. More detail is on our Philadelphia Airport car service page, and South Jersey travellers can see airport transportation from Pennsauken, which crosses the Walt Whitman Bridge to reach the airport in about 15 road miles.

Is the new cruise terminal near PHL?

Yes. Philadelphia’s new cruise terminal opened on August 27, 2026, in Tinicum Township, right next to the airport, with Norwegian Cruise Line as its anchor line. Flying in the day before a sailing is now a very short transfer; see cruise terminal transportation.
